We seek candidates who are established international leaders in interdisciplinary research in the environmental humanities, focussing on environmental engagement in religious communities, including work on faith-based environmental action, Jewish environmentalism, and cultural values around wastefulness, consumption, and simplicity. The successful candidate must have experience in developing databases that support comparative analysis of faith-based communities, including statistical, geospatial, and demographic analysis. They must also have experience analyzing and re-interpreting religious texts to understand the basis for faith-based environmentalism, must have published a substantial body of work on wastefulness as a religious value, including at least one book with a reputable university press, and must have a track record of successful SSHRC funding to support this work.

Applicants must have earned a PhD degree in the humanities, focussing on Religion and Environment, with a clearly demonstrated exceptional record of excellence in research and teaching. We seek candidates whose research and teaching interests complement and enhance our existing strengths at the School. Candidates will have an established international reputation and will be expected to sustain and lead innovative and independent research at the highest international level and to maintain an outstanding, competitive, and externally funded research program.

Candidates must provide evidence of research excellence which can be demonstrated by a record of sustained high-impact contributions and publications in top-ranked and field relevant journals, the submitted research statement, presentations at significant conferences, distinguished awards and accolades, and other noteworthy activities that contribute to the visibility and prominence of the discipline, as well as strong endorsements from referees of high standing.

Evidence of excellence in teaching will be provided through teaching accomplishments, the teaching dossier submitted as part of the application (with required materials outlined below), as well as strong letters of reference.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The School of the Environment is an interdisciplinary hub within the Faculty of Arts & Science, running undergraduate and graduate programs in environment and sustainability.
